Covid-19 cases in Eastern Europe have exceeded 5 million

The total number of officially confirmed cases of coronavirus in Eastern Europe has exceeded 5 million, world agencies reported.

The region, which covers Bulgaria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine, has the highest number of reported cases of infection in Europe.

In the last week, Eastern Europe has reported an average of more than 82,000 new cases and more than 1,500 deaths per day.

Russia, Poland and Ukraine are among the 20 countries in the world with the most infections.

In Russia, their total number has crossed the threshold of 2 million since the beginning of the pandemic, and in this respect it ranks fifth in the world after the United States, India, Brazil and France.
